Casanova, Veneziano Mondano

The Slovak Baroque ensemble Solamente Naturali, conducted by Miloš Valent, offered a musical journey through eighteenth-century Europe, evoking the brilliant and cosmopolitan spirit of Giacomo Casanova.

Venice as the setting

Held under the patronage of Princess Stéphanie Windisch-Graetz, the evening combined Venetian dishes researched by historian Yann Grappe, an Italian-style banquet setting, photographs of Venice, talks, Baroque decoration and Patrick Mallet’s drawings for Les Plombs de Venise.

Venetian masks for the gentlemen, fans for the ladies and creations by Artistique Ferrer completed this culinary and cultural journey through time.

Casanova, the sensual gourmet

Yann Grappe’s gastronomic dossier draws on Histoire de ma vie and Casanova’s correspondence. The menu follows his travels, memories and preference for French, Venetian and wider European cooking, with particular attention to simple dishes and lightly worked ingredients.

« I also loved the pleasures of a good table. »
